3 Tips to Make Social Media Effective – Social Media Service

by admin on July 16, 2010

When you take that first tentative step into using the social media programs like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube it can feel like the first time you dump the 1,000 puzzle pieces out on to the table, “Oh My Goodness! How on earth will I ever get this done?!” I remember feeling just that way, however along the journey I have discovered that it really did not need to be like that. There are a multitude of free resources out there for you, EzineArticles being one of them!

Here are 3 tips that can assist you in making the journey just a little bit easier, remember it really is easy when someone shows you how.

Progress Not PerfectionSocial media is like a conversation you have with anyone, it is part of being social. Conversations whether they be in person, in writing or on-line are never perfect. Do yourself a favor and stop expecting perfection from yourself, do it the easy way instead of the hard way. There are some really great blogs out there that provide excellent information however they are not perfect. Sometimes an article or post could be better, or maybe you might even find a link that does not work. The important learning here is to make progress. Ask yourself what will assist you in moving forward today?

Eliminate the grunt work. Ever since I started using computers back in the early 80′s I have worked on the premise, “If I have to do it more than once, the computer can do it better.” There are many aspects of social media that are repetitive; as you learn more it will become very obvious to you. Identify what it is that sets you apart and concentrate on those activities. What is your fastest path to cash as Loral Langemeier would ask. Your creativeness is what will draw the audiences to you. Focus there – the rest may simply be busy work and that can be done by a computer program or application or perhaps even outsourced.

Quality over quantity - more participation does not trump higher-quality participation. As the social web continues to grow, this will become more and more important. When you first start building your presence on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube it can be overwhelming. You may be asking yourself what can I possibly post on any of these that other people would be interested in. Once you have a clear idea about what you want to offer and get really focused on your niche this will get easier. You do not have to write all the blog posts yourself, all content does not necessarily have to be created by you. Sharing information from other experts is an excellent way to get started, just remember to give credit where credit is due.
