Effective Ways to Use Twitter Lists – Twitter Marketing

I actually first discovered lists when on Facebook and was able to leverage their power. I was very excited last fall when Twitter introduced lists too.

Here are a few ideas for using lists, put your creativity hat on, you may think of many other ways too!

With Twitter Lists you can…

  1. Show appreciation to your clients, followers and/or customers. Lists enable you to quickly find these people among all of your followers. You can easily single out their tweets and RT, reply or thank them publicly. We all like to be thanked or have people identify our information or products as valuable. By publicly doing this for your followers you will set yourself apart from the competition.
  2. Create a list that is location based, when it is time to invite people to a local event you will be able to quickly and easily identify all of the people you have entered into that specific list. One specific way I use Twitter lists to track and stay in contact with the members of my local Vancouver Strategic Twitter Team Meet Up Group.
  3. You can leverage your lists with HootSuite. Create columns, within HootSuite, for your different lists so that you can see all of their tweets in one place, then right there within HootSuite you can reply, DM or RT with the click of just a couple of buttons.

A good idea is to also check and see what lists you appear on. If you are on a list that you would rather not be, like “stupid mustaches” check out the various videos that show you “How to Remover Yourself From Stupid Twitter Lists”.

Twitter allows each person to have a maximum of 20 lists with only 500 people on each list. When they first introduced the function I was so excited I went in a created my 20 lists immediately. Then later on I had to go back and combine some topics. This was a little time consuming, therefore I would recommend that you put some serious thought into your 20 lists and don’t create them all at once.
