During the last one and half decade, social media has totally changed the way people communicate with each other and the business houses have improved their relationship with customers and prospects. Social Networking throughout the 2000′s Decade have seen many social media emerging and in most of the case disappearing overnight. During the early years of 2000 social media became popular through friendster and then MySpace, since then they was an explosive growth with facebook, twitter and pinterest appearing in the digital world. The subsequent years have seen massive rise in mobile computing on devices like tablets and smart phones.

In the early years of 2000, internet explorer totally dominated the browser space and the social networking site was reduced to one platform called friendster. The revolution in social media started happening with the introduction of MySpace, which turned out to be the biggest social networking site. LinkedIn was also launched during that, time which became the first business related social media site. The first photo sharing site photo bucket was also launched during that year. Facebook came into existence in 2004 and was at its infancy. After that, YouTube the online streaming and video sharing site was launched and until now lots of video sharing site came into existence but none of them had the popularity of YouTube. In the middle of 2000, facebook was still the popular site with Facebook slowly coming up the ladder. Twitter was launched during that time and become the best micro blogging site of your choice. By 2008, facebook overtook MySpace and become the most popular and leading social networking platform until date.

The massive changes in social networking throughout the 2000′s decade continued to dominate the internet with individuals and business houses trying to work out the true potential of these platforms. With the introduction of smart phones social media companies went all out in their efforts to become mobile friendly and tablet friendly by introducing mobile apps.Today Social media has made a huge impact in the world and changed the way people and the business world communicate and it has become an essential part of our life.

  1. I have to agree that when Facebook was undergoing some very big changes, Myspace remained the same. Even when Myspace was the larger social network, it was a bit glitchy and their team took their time to solve the problems. Another factor that made Facebook come out on top.
