When people talk about traditional marketing, they normally speak of television ads, newspapers, billboards, flyers, or radio commercials. Now, it probably wouldn’t be wise to say that these methods didn’t have their day in the sun, but the truth is – social media is powerful and when you discover how powerful it is – you will want to harness this power for your business. So, how can businesses harness the power of social media marketing?
The reason that social media marketing is so powerful is not because it’s free, but because it provides tools for marketers that will allow them to reach millions with their marketing efforts. You see, traditional marketing is called interruptive marketing for a reason. It’s not targeted and it is basically taking a message that is meant for some and sends it out to millions of others that are simply not interested. The power of social media allows a marketer to target a specific market such as women, in their 30’s, in the US, married, with children, and who have or haven’t graduated college.
How powerful is that? You see, this kind of information used to cost a fortune, and for the most part wasn’t even accurate. More and more people are joining social media networks every day and that means there are more and more people to market to and specifically target in your marketing campaigns. Facebook alone is approaching 800 million users, 250 to 300 million are online at any given time. If you were to target a fraction of this audience to use in your marketing efforts, you can already probably see the power in just this social network alone.
Harnessing the power of social media will not be difficult as long as you have a strategy and know who your target market is. This is probably one of the most important aspects of social media and all the different networks in which you can use for your marketing campaigns. For those that aren’t entirely sure about how to get started, there is help standing by.
Great summary of the Power of Social Media Marketing!
Social Media Marketing really is a powerful tool and should be included in every modern marketing managers arsenal. Just think about the targetable options Facebook advertising offers. You can reach 25-29 old males who live in 50 miles radius of Detroit, Michigan and like hunting. Now, that’ pretty well defined!
Then there is the free advertising side of things that nobody in the 90’s had even even dreamed of. Lady Gaga has over 10 million followers on Twitter and she can reach them for free! How about that?!
Great post, mate!
It must start with targetting, as you wrote. Glad you are Stumbling with us, Sathish!
You are SO on point with this post. It’s NOT just about the cost of the marketing, it’s about targeting to the correct audience. Facebook and other social platforms can target the audience based on the way the user “surfs” the web. Companies no long have to throw a handful of darts at a wall hoping one of them will hit the correct target.
