When you first set out to learn a new program there is always a learning curve. Twitter is no different! The great thing about Twitter is that the learning curve is short. You can set up you profile in under 5 minutes. However it is also about on-line friendships and relationships and because of that you will always be learning. Just like the ebb and flow of the tide things will change on Twitter. Here are 5 tips to assist you in getting started with Twitter…
!) Direct Automated Messages – There is divided opinion out there today about the use of direct automated messages. It can be a lovely introduction to your new followers or it can be a spam message. Unfortunately many people have turned their welcome message into a “buy my stuff” as a result direct messages are often ignored.
2) New Blog Posts – Each and every time you make a new post on your blog you can easily let all of your Twitter followers know that it is there for their reading or watching pleasure. I would also recommend that you tweet it more than once in a day. Twitter is very fluid and depending upon the time of day and the # of followers your “tweet” could be gone in a second. Change it up a bit each time you tweet.
3) Tweet To Multiple Platforms – There are many, many social media platforms to chose from, pick a few, create your profile and post your tweets in as many places as you can. Twitter is about getting rapid fire exposure and generating interest.
4) Give Advice – In order to set yourself up as the go to person, the expert, you will need to be seen as a person with the answers. You can give your own advice and you can direct people to other experts. It will not do you any harm in the long run when you demonstrate that you are willing to direct people to the best advice you know about.
5) Be Helpful – provide information, tips, tricks or techniques from your area of expertise. Provide positive feedback for people, demonstrate an interest in what they are doing. When you are “following” like minded people who are interested in what you have to offer this is easy and fun to do.
When I first started out using Twitter I had an excellent example of what it was doing for me when my account was hacked. Twitter people were excellent in getting me operating again in 3 days, however I noticed a dramatic drop in the traffic to my website. I was hooked and you will be to.
