How to Choose the Right Social Media Channels for Your Business

Social media marketing is the order of the day but if you wish to succeed, you must choose the right social media channels for your business.

First understand the nature of your customers and prospects and the social media channels where they are likely to proliferate.

As a business owner, you should know who your typical customer is. You should be able to identify with ease the age range, income range, and gender of your existing and prospective customers.

Your business will not succeed in its SMM (Social Media Marketing) efforts unless you know the basic demographic of your customer and their purchase behavior and pattern.

Without being offensive, it can be stated that if you really do not know who your customer is, you should probably close up your business and look for alternatives.

After identifying your customer, you will have to carefully consider and evaluate the variety of social media channels that are available and where your customers/prospects may be found.

You may have to pay special attention to all the major social media channels – Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Linked-In and Google +. Most of your customers/prospects will assuredly be on all or at least few of tem.

Take the time and do a bit of research to find out what is happening on each of these five sites. Remember tat all these five sites are all different and function differently. The only similarity amongst them is their ability to serve an audience in the social media universe.

Visit all the social media channels of your choice to ascertain the ones where you think you will be able to connect with your customers/prospects. Do some rambling, look at images, watch videos and search for your favorite brands.

Carefully study what is being posted, how things are being posted and the online behavior of brands. The key to choosing your social media channel lies in your ability to discover through observation which channel will be the best fit for your business.

Selecting the right social media channels is a process that will take quite a bit of your time and test your patience. But the efforts are worth it as being overwhelmingly present in wrong social channels will fetch you no rewards.
